try again

Had another go at the paintings from yesterday.
I painted this on a piece of Fabriano Artistico 300lb that they sent me to replace some (140lb) paper I bought a while back. (I bought several packs of 16x20 sheets of paper that were labeled Fabriano, but were not.)
On first try, I've got to say I'm not too keen on this paper: it's incredibly "soft," like painting on cotton balls.

I like the wildness of the first painting - the idea that you’re not sure what the trees/shrubs are in the left of the road…also the purple road and the far background tie in well. I’m surprised about the Fabriano…I’ve used it many times and like it as much as the Arches…not sure I’ve used 300# though, only the 140# Fabrianao Artistico bright white or natural. Maybe they sent you another batch that was mislabeled??

Thanks, Rhonda. It has the Fabriano watermark ... The surface makes me think of cardboard. I'm going to have to give it all away--20 sheets!

I have had this problem with the artistico paper....I hadn't used it for quite a while and had some given to me. It seems some time back they had changed something in the way the paper was produced, there was lots of buzz about it from artists at the time (going back quite a while though - I had thought it had been sorted.) very frustrating when you are painting.

The limeish green and violet combo is lush - very Springlike.

I remember that too, Lisa. Fabriano had been my favorite paper back then. Now I mostly use hard-sized Arches!
Violet and green is a winning combination!

Oh, what a shame! I wonder if Fabriano has changed? I haven’t used it for a while (Arches has been cheaper to buy lately).
