little paintings 4x4

A grosbeak, and an unfinished painting based on my drawing of the other day.

Read recently that Richard Diebenkorn didnt paint from the model: he made sketches from the model-- sometimes in b&w watercolor or gouache-- then painted from the drawing.
I love this idea which I think must help break the desire to replicate the source and force you to think more instead about what's on your paper.

I think painting from your sketches is a good way to paint more of your vision - I will have to incorporate this, too. Love the little bird, of course!

I'm going to try it, maybe with a few drawings of people, a la Diebenkorn!
Thank you, Rhonda.

Now that is something to think about! Both of these are lovely - I do love small paintings.
