"Painting is an island whose shores I have skirted." --Chardin
I think I prefer the female cardinal, with her tawny coloring.
My cardinals always look cartoony to me ... haven't been able to figure out why!
Not cartoony at all but they are hard to get just right (mine are either very fat or very thin :(. I find that the females here are a bit of a olive green color, so drab with just bits of red here and there. During the ice storm and snow yesterday the papa cardinals were all out in full glory and you could see them hunkering down in the trees, trying to stay dry and warm.
Lovely soft treatment - I guess the stronger colours of the male make it hard to make him look as soft and bird-like, but they are beautiful - hope I get to see one someday!
I hope you do too, Cathy. I suppose I have taken them a bit for granted! It is so nice to see Mr and Mrs!
It really is about the shape ... better go back to my John Laws book!
