I started another fire escape scene last night. In the misfire below I used miskit/masque to block out the whites, but when I removed the miskit I thought 1) that I'd painted too much and 2) that, as usual, I was unhappy with the effect ... I could soften the hard edges I suppose, but I'd rather begin over.
Which I did, painting the scene above by painting around the whites. It's not very "readable" at the moment, but I think I'll wait and think about what to do: whatever I do I feel it shouldn't be much.

Hi Laura, I am wondering if these are 2 seperate paintings.I like the combination of colors light greens and blues and purples,nice... I'm also enjoying the shadows. Snowing here tonight, finally I'm hoping for a snow day so I can paint.

I like the abstracted look of the fire escape painting. And I agree with cropping the coconut painting - it makes it more powerful to have everything "in your face" with the cropped version.
I really love the coconuts and you are right with the crops too. You do watercolors so well, Laura. I am awed, truly. I like the painting with the liquid frisket. Fabulous colors in both!

Gee, I love that abstract looking fire escape! I think it's readable as light coming through slats, and doesn't need to get much more specific at all. The varied colours in the masked version are lovely. The coconut painting also gets much more abstracted with the close crop - beautiful!
These are beautiful, Laura--lots of lines/lights/darks to make the fire escape paintings difficult, but they're lovely. And the coconuts are awesome! I love the cropped images.

How different the two techniques are! I like them both but the one with the painted around whites has a wonderful sense of freedom and energy that I love.
