virtual sketch date 2
(5.5x7.5) More work avoidance. Started this yesterday evening, in the semi-dark as a thunderstorm rolled in. I wanted to have more darks in the bottom part of the painting.
Thanks, Suzanne. I am really enjoying this subject, and these colors.
Usually I use my work avoidance to bake something (did that later in the day: blueberry coffeecake!). Thanks for mentioning the quotes, Leslie: I think I choose quotations that put it all in perspective for me!
I think they are both great. I am drawn to the first though. Are you doing a series based on color temp. for this sketch date. The last one is the cool one, the first the midtone, possibly the next the warm? gail
I'd make a hell of mess if I did that, Bill: even small, I'm sloppy!
My mother is a great cook and my brothers both chefs. I like to try new recipes, especially baked goods! Today peaches and spongecake.
Thanks, Shicat; and I agree: I can't decide which I like better--I like the leaves on the first and oranges, and the blue-purples of the other! Tomorrow I'll post my 3rd (and final?) version.
LOL Gail--nothing so planned. I did the first and then wanted to try again, and I just tried to choose different colors, but without thinking about it very much.
Thanks Kay Susan. The source photo, which you can view at the Virtual Sketch blog, has more darks across the bottom, and when I noticed that I didn't get them in my first go, I thought to try another adding them.

Really, really beautiful, Laura. As usual, I like it just the way it is.
Fabulous use of work avoidnce :)
I want to mention how much I enjoy the artists quotes in the sidebar.

These are beautiful. Sometimes I wish you would pick up a broomstick and paint five foot tall!
blueberry coffeecake...
you can bake too?
I can see why you are obsessing over those colors. They are so nice to look at.
I don't know which one I love the most!So loose and beautiful

Laura, this is beautiful. You were right about the darks!

Very pretty. Nice and loose. I can't do loose.
Beautiful loose painting. The colours are fantastic. Orange and blue are my favourites, they really do work so well together.
Gorgeous glazes in this Laura.
Beautiful, light watercolor! Love the outcome.
