classwork

                               10x12

This week's lesson in Paul Talbot Greaves' class was values--a lesson I definitely need.
As usual, my darks are not dark enough; too much water.
But I'm not unhappy with the painting overall.

Laura I think your painting is lovely. I do know what you mean about values and achieving deep enough darks. Perhaps that is one of the hardest things to do with watercolor. If I go too dark too soon I tend to lose the light that makes watercolors sparkle but if not dark enough don't achieve the contrast and that 3 d look. Hope you are having a lovely spring day.

Thank you. Debbie. I think that's just it: I don't want to lose the color. Happy spring to you too!

I like the way you’ve played with the warms and cools in this painting. Nicely done - and I especially like the distant tree - just enough, not too much, information there and a good color mix.
