plein air, week 3

For this week's plein air we decided to change it up a bit and instead of painting a beach scene painted in a wildlife management area, Cox Hall Creek.
As you see, I found it very challenging--the greens, but also defining space, finding shapes ... and painting shadows falling on tall grasses. Definitely could use some practice with shadows!

Thank you, that's really nice to hear. Plein air painting can be frustrating--but also enjoyable! I'm trying to ramp up the enjoyment and quash the frustration! To basically be happy to be out and painting and not be too results-oriented.

These have a lovely energy in colour and brushstroke. The spots of purple lift the ochre and make it dance.
