bluejays

(5x7)
Above: Another go at the pair of bluejays.
Below: A bluejay I painted several months ago, before starting to try to learn the anatomy of wings. The beak is too big and curved, but otherwise, I like the head.

Laura - these blue jays are beautiful. So nice you painted a pair together. So lovely.

Liking both of these paintings but I see what you mean about the bill of the single jay - it's easy to make the bills too long, too short, too curved, too straight, whatever - and that's a big part of what type of bird they are. I've messed up a nice bird by not getting the bill right at all :( Ah, well, more practice!!!

All your practice-practice-practice is certainly paying off, Laura. Beautiful.

Getting the right anatomy is key, you did a beautiful job! I love your LBB from yesterday too. It's hard to believe you didn't draw them out first! I always love your colors, your browns are very rich.
