another fine mess ...

A friend and I entered the Easels in Frederick plein air competion: 30 artists would be selected to paint in Frederick, MD, for three days in June and then show their work and compete for prizes.
These are the three paintings I submitted with my application: all painted en plein air.

The artists who were chosen were announced today and I'm one of them! I'm stunned, and terrified.
Most of the artists have websites where you can view their work, and the ones I've looked at are very professional ... and all oil painters.
I think they may have wanted to throw a watercolorist into the mix.

Anyway, I better get busy practicing my drawing, painting, and setup, and getting my legs and arms in condition!

Congratulations!!! You're work is amazing!! You should listen to the Artist's Helping Artist's show from 2 weeks ago about plein air painting. I have a link on my blog. Anyway, she gave some very helpful tips.

Congratulations Laura....your work is beautiful and I love the title of your post today, sort of keeps one wondering if it goes with that first painting with all the snow or what's going on in your life. Enjoy yourself!

Oh wow, congratulations Laura!! I think they may have wanted to throw an extremely talented and unique watercolorist into the mix - one who can produce such fresh and accomplished paintings en plein air, I am so happy for you. Seems like its the year of rewards for hard work coming around!

I hear that Frederick is a great historic town. My HS girlfriends and I are hoping to spend a weekend there in May.....great restaurants.

Congrats on that! Those entries are spectacular, beautifully composed. No wonder they picked you.

Do you think they will find a spot to paint that's breezy & shady with beers? In any case, it's a bit chilly out at present so you will need to come visit and paint with me.

Congratulations - breathe, take it slow, realize you are up to the task and enjoy sharing the beautiful watercolor paintings with others :) Wish I could be there to watch you all work.

They definitely need a watercolourist in the mix. These are so eye-catching - I hope you get your wish. x
