great blue heron

                              11x15
I painted this heron in a class with Michele Clamp, who first encountered on her FB page, Painting Colorful Birds for Fun
And below is one I painted on my own.
I think if I can integrate these approaches, I may have something!
                                11x9

Quick sketch prior to doing the painting above. As often happens, the sketch has an extra appeal.

Painting Colorful Birds for Fun. And these look like they were fun. The heron has a freshness. Did you use a reference photo? Love the colors too.

They were; thanks, Mike. And yes on the reference photo--though in the "sketch" one I found myself not consulting it as much, which is perhaps why that one's my favorite

You know, one of these days I expect to see you with a book of watercolor birds - even if it’s only for your own (and your blogger buddies and art friend’s ) benefit - that would be so cool!! Pick out about 30 of the best (which will be hard - maybe 50 instead!!).

Thank you, Rhonda. I will be showing my bird paintings at the Cape May Nature Center in September, so pretty soon I'll have to be going through the pile!
