My second go at the Rookie Painter challenge. There are some overworked bits, especially the base of the bottom bowl ... just cannot get it right. But I like the grayer (it's "palette" gray--a diluted mix of the colors in the palette mixing areas) background: it seems to make the white bowl look whiter, which I lost a bit in the first version.

Here is my first version, with a few more darks added and a light green glaze over the background.

great studies laura ... it's a beautiful ref to work from ...
Both are beautiful and I do like the greyed bg and the redder strawberries and more intense color in the 2nd version; but I still like them both :)
I liked the first, but in the second version the grey background sure makes the white bowl stand out! They are both beautiful!
Hi Laura,
I love what you did with this. You are certainly no rookie painter -- you're a watercolour genius. I love the colours you chose, both paintings sing. Wonderful.

Love those colors merging into each other.. Great job..
These are gorgeous, Laura. The second version really shines. You do so well with your color choices and how you get one color to flow into another.
Great job girl!
Hello. My finger is tired of scrolling between the to paintings :) But, the second one you made has so much more color. The bowl at the top is so nice with the purple in it and the bottem one with all the red in it. You were right about the background! The white bowl comes out much better. So I go for the second painting!!
This painting looks so much more vibrant. The berries are luscious.
These are fabulous, Laura! You really used rich colors and I love the variety of colors you depict here in each wash.
Nice use of colors..I've always loved demos. I've been doing watercolors for as long as I know...but starting my own blog, I decided to do a
GIVEAWAY of a watercolor. It's a bold move but I'm ready to have a website as lovely as yours!
Hi
I love your paintings. I have´t had a chance to look through everything yet, but I really love your self-portrait on the top right hand corner of your blog. It is exactly the style of watercolor portrait painting I would love to learn how to do. Was there a particular book, or artist that you referred to in learning to do portraits like that? I´m hoping there might be some resource I can look for in my own library - most of the watercolour portrait books I´ve borrowed have a very different style. I like your style much better!
Cheers
Kerrie
