virtual paintout: arles

(11x15)
It's been awhile, but I joined in this month's Virtual Paintout of Arles, France. I found many charming streetscenes using Google Streetview but found them harder to paint than expected. I thought a streetscene, with it's succession of receding box shapes and flat planes would be "easy" to paint. Not so.
The scene above was my third attempt.

Love the painting of Arles.

It would be great to be somewhere warm and sunny today. It is cold and very, very wet.

Super painting.

Greetings from Wichita, Kansas! I agree with you, street scenes are hard to do...I love them though! You have done an excellent job. I think watercolor is had to do if there are a lot details and you have accomplished it well! I look forward to seeing more of your art work.

I think the wonky perspective of the shutters and their wobbly look make this even more charming than if you'd tried to keep everything straight and even.
