"It's a beautiful ride" is the slogan of the Cape May - Lewes ferry, and it's true.
I've been accumulating a number of unfinished paintings and decided to try to "finish" this one. I like this subject but there are two, for me, insurmountable mistakes here: I cannot get the glasses right, and the more I try the worse it gets (something a watercolorist should know!) and I regret making the railing so prominent; I have tried to subdue it, in vain.
I do like the nose and lips and will try this one again and see if I learn from my mistakes!

I agree, the glasses are too strong - don't mind the bg at all, though - it gives a sense of summer colors and shapes. Perhaps just dab some of the color off the glasses in places and call it done? I don't think it needs much at all but lifting some color there. I'm so pleased to see you doing portraits :)
JUST SOFTEN THE GLASS IN THE GLASSES AND SOFTEN THE LINE AROUND THE EAR. I THINK IT'S LOVELY.

The glasses look fine to me and I like the railing. Laura -- you are so good.

I think it is quite lovely, Laura. I didn't realize that was a railing. I thought it was vertical blinds over the windows. Well done!
Yeah--I bet you could lift some of the color here and there from the glasses and it will soften them? Neat profile portrait, though!
