Ever seen the TV show "Worst Week Ever"? That's this week for me: every day one or more things goes wrong on one or more fronts. I just hope it doesn't turn into "Worst Fortnight Ever"!
When things are at the worst is when you have to rely on your friends, as I'm doing in this post ... I haven't anything to add to my blog this week, so my friend Mike is letting me post the paintings he made in April in the Virgin Islands.
Aren't these superb? I really like the way Michael handled his greens: he didn't know how scared we all are of green. Look at how he varies the greens in the receding hills or added red to the greens behind the William Thornton, or Willie T as it's called. (He must've painted this in the morning after all the naked revelers had dinghied home. Lots of opportunities for life drawing there! )
I'm not 100 percent sure but I think these are all postcard-size.

And in all of them I love the simple, straightforward description of the water: a dash of blue.

And they're a nice reminder of a week when apparently nothing went wrong! I too love paintings by people who don't seem to know that greens are scary.
These are incredible. I particularly like the way he's painted the skies. I'm not one for landscapes, but I really enjoy looking at these. Great style.
Ooh, I love the boat painting. Something about that green sky...
I know how it is Laura, truly. Speaking of which, are we long lost twins or something? LOL I do hope and pray that it gets better. It just has to!
Hey Laura, tell Mike it is time to get his own blog: he learned from you so much. His paintings are very fresh; but this time they are very feminine (compare to his veggies you posted last time).
Cheer up, everything will be just fine. Look at yourself in the mirror: do you still have all your body parts? Can you still see; paint, mix the colors? That is incredible!!!
The dark stripe of the life will be over pretty soon.
Here is a magic phrase you please say right now: Every day in every way I feel better and better! (try it several times; and you will feel resistance at the beginning but later you really will do good :).
Have a splendid day Laura!!

These are beautiful, Laura! Your friend Mike must be a natural, like you. Sorry you're having a week from hell--hope it turns 'round and becomes inspiring soon! I've been stressed out over travel plans and all the craziness that holds, so I hear you.
Lovely of you to profile his work--his style is wonderful.
Don't you just love those beginners. I mean they just go ahead and 'do it'... Not bogged down with all the stuff in our heads. You'll get over this hump Laura, you know we've been there before ,, and as my mom used to say.. everything passes... and it does..
BTW I got the Tribeca series brushes, and really. really like them...
Hope things have settled down for you.
With a stroke of blue, a varietal dash of greens, Mike has created some beautiful watercolors! I do hope your days get much better soon.
nice painting~! I am sure the worst is over...
Hi Laura,
Sorry you are having a terrible week.
I hope it is not a rough fortnight.
Super paintings by your friend. It's great to see your blog again.
XOBarbara
They are beautiful!
I hope things are looking up by now Laura. Mike's paintings are lovely - how often I've tried to do a 'dash of blue' for water, then couldn't resist fiddling!
