I saw this photo by Ruth on Don's blog and kept thinking I'd like to paint it. I think it was the blue-green window frame, or maybe the chickens. It's just a great subject ... I'd like to do it again!
Thanks Ruth, for the inspiration!
In fact there's a great photo of a cardinal on a snow-covered branch in the header to Don's blog ... very tempting!

Oh, your versions are just marvelous here. I do love your blues--no one else's quite compare!
You know I love it! The tones and shadows on the rocks, and the lilac branches (not that you knew they were lilac!) are so good. Did you mask the branches?
I'm excited now to put your painting on my sidebar gallery!
Gorgeous! Really - your watercolors are wonderful.
I love your watercolours and this one is no exception. Beautiful.
I love this painting, Laura! Great job! Your recent watercolors have been extra lovely. I think that periods of non-painting are as helpful as painting every day. Some gears seem to shift in the in-between.
Thanks for the link to the photo blog — beautiful. Could not get to Don's and am not sure which Don it is. More cardinals in store?
Beautiful painting you did. I came over from Ruth's blog.
This is great. The colors and of course the subject. Good for you for painting it. Maybe you,I should try the painting some of those beautiful birds?
Absolutely right everything about that photograph was right on...
beautiful work on the painting too...
2 works of Art!!!chnessuc
Oh wow! A painting with chickens!! Perfect! I think it is my favorite of all your work to date....
Would you consider selling it?
So nice, your painting!!!
The window look like one I have in my memory, from the house where I lived my childhood.
thank you
Love the colors (especially the door) *and* the chickens.....
Thanks everyone for the great comments! There's something to be said for painting something you're attracted to ... even I was pleased with the results!
Thanks, Suzanne, for letting me know the link didn't work--I've fixed it; it should take you to A View from the Green Barn.
It's nice to think that taking a break is beneficial too!
Claire, thank you for your inquiry, but I painted this as a gift. I hope/plan to do more paintings featuring chickens--and maybe even paint this scene again.
Oh, that blue! It's glorious. Very lovely transparent watercolor, Laura. I love it when paper and paint sing together like that.
I feel so cool. This is such an honor to have an artist paint my barn and chickens! I will tell them about it in the morning. They'll be so pleased.
As am I
These colors are so beautiful!

[Just a word of suggestion:Dark shades(blue/black)could have been used to show window depth...n d tree shadow falling on both d cock n wall as well.],[Really too good use of W.colors...a treat 4 d eyes!]
