Took a little time off yesterday to join Marie Natale and some other students to paint outdoors in Cape May. Even though I find plein air painting to be more and more of a struggle, it does have wonderful relaxing effects--the whole day just goes by, everything else forgotten.
The front of the building was in shadow, so I washed the whole thing right off in shady colors ... then realized it was mistake. Maybe someday I'll know mistakes before I commit them.
I think the light on the bunting and the awning are the best parts.
Ah, but sometimes 'mistakes' turn into opportunities. I don't see evidence of any mistakes at all, I love the contrast of light and shadow that I'm seeing! This painting is so charming and fresh and inviting. That sounds like a fun day in a beautiful location, too!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Katherine. The contrast from the shaded area has set off the brightness of the sunlight hitting the front of the awning. Beautiful work. You plein aire painters amaze me!
ReplyDeleteA fun and lovely painting, Laura.
ReplyDeleteThe light is lovely and it is a happy painting of a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteYou are my hero, outdoor painting is such a stress for me with all interested people around and my wish to look "perfect artist"))).
ReplyDeleteYour painting is great, I could only advice to add more contrast in shadow area, but I am not the one who has the right to advice for sure!
Oh my I'm astounded at how hard you are on yourself. I love this. An artist of your caliber really doesn't make mistakes. This is glorious.

Fantastic painting and drawing. The green does it for me; so vibrant. There are no mistakes in this painting.
