impression

Feeling a bit distracted and scattered, which is not conducive to painting! Can't seem to settle on a subject or commit to the time, or more importantly, the mental energy, to paint. So here's just a quick impression with the remnant of one of the many fishing piers--all gone now--that used to extend out into the bay and from which my brothers and I used to (ineptly!) crab.

  1. And a beautiful impression! It reminds me of my summers growing up in Longport.

  2. What a sweet watery scene, Laura... exactly the way a beach scene should be... I also love the liquid clouds moving as if a mist is passing over the water...

  3. Laura, Indeed nice to be here and seeing your work. Correct me if I am wrong I think that you have been "SLightly" impacted by Paul cezanne in this painting I see in it "la montagne sainte-victoire" by him, although he was painting a landscape, your way of painting reminds of him. By the way thanx for you sweet words.. yes I have lots of studies to do. I will surely need luck :)

  4. Your being scattered and distracted doesn't show at all, this is lovely! So fresh and airy. I also enjoyed seeing your student work, and the Pigeon Key paintings (the top one reminds me of Winslow Homer). I'm sorry I don't have the time to comment on all of them individually, but I'm always happy to see a new post of yours :)

  5. I'm feeling the same way...but at least your painting!! Good girl! I'm just sitting on the couch pouting 'cause it keeps snowing on my spring!
Love this little painting...so fresh and pure. Okay...I'm gonna go splash some paint around...bound to make me feel better. Happy painting!

  6. Thanks for the encouragement, everyone. I actually wasn't thinking of Cezanne, but am perhaps he has entered my consciousness so thoroughly that it's not necessary to? Wouldn't that be nice!! It's funny because, to cure my slump, I was thinking of going back to basics: apples on a white cloth!
Sorry about your snowy spring, Tracy!! Ours has been very cloudy, gray. The sun is icumen in though, so hang on.
