I make a lot of resolutions, all year long, especially in regard to painting ... But I never keep them. Maybe because I let myself off the hook so easily.
Making another, one I think I will keep: every day, from now to 5/16, do one Wyeth or Turner copy a day.
And maybe I should also try to add a Wyeth- or Turner-ish sketch of a scene close to home.
I mean, look at these skies! Last night and this morning.
Ah, the best laid plans…I once decided I should do a cloud/sky study every day from a certain point because we do have some outstanding skies here in my area (we are at a high point in the state). But did I do more than 2? No. I wonder what drives those who can follow through and commit and do it? Not me. I flit all over…but I do often return to birds and nature and that’s okay. I mean, I’m trying to get better for myself, not for others or shows so if I am painting at all every day (or once a week in a busy world), I am putting in the brush miles, right? And so are you - you have been putting in the brush miles lately and it shows. Lovely idea and lovely studies to do but you paint like you and I don’t want you to change your own style, which I love!
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you, Rhonda.
ReplyDeleteHow many times have I said I should paint a sky everyday?! A readymade, beautiful, challenging, appealing subject that changes several times a day!
Be still my beating heart! That is a fantastic beach I am viridian with envy at the low tide and those gorgeous reflections. Those photos are crying out to be painted.
ReplyDeleteI've never managed more than a few days of continuous sky painting. Life always gets in the way.
Yes, that's exactly it: life!--
DeleteI am so lucky to be close to this Delaware bay beach, and that it never gets really crowded, because it's not a good place to swim-- strong tides, muddy bottom, and it can be very shallow for a long way out!
Bonus points: the sun sets over it!
