Snow was forecast overnight here, but didn't happen. I was so disappointed. If it's going to be cold, you may as well have snow!
I painted this scene along with a video by Anne Kullaf. I enjoyed it.
She used a triad-- ultramarine, carmine and raw sienna. I found I needed to add cerulean to separate the sky from the trees.
I feel some of my shapes are too clunky or solid and hard edged. I'll try to be mindful of that next time I paint this.
Love it !!
ReplyDeleteFunny that you use these colours, ... as I always had the idea that sienna was more a reddisch one.
My palette is the last couple of years Ultramarine blue, Burnt Sienna and Naples Yellow pale.
What would happen if I would swap Naples Yellow for Raw Sienna, ...?
It would be a weird palette for once I would say.
Nice challenge, thank you !
I am enjoying these limited palette challenges.
DeleteI like Naples yellow, but I think raw sienna may be a bit stronger.
Look forward to finding out what you think!
Got a go yesterday, ... see my blog,
Delete"1994, 1889 and 1894"
It's a bit weird I always thought sienna was somewhat reddish but now, ....
It's much lower in key tho the whole palette, ... a bit like the Kevin McPherson's one.
How and why did you came to this palette?
I have strongly the idea that every area has it's own "limited" palette, ...
For example, Germany has a much more blue-ish one and Ireland a brownish, England therefor is much more greenisch and The Netherlands somewhat burnt umber one, ... just an idea tho.
Thanks for getting to get me into this, ...
Its very nice
ReplyDeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's a beautiful snow scene. I like the upward movement of the trees. Nothing clunky or hard edged about it to my eyes.
