This week went back to class with my friend and teacher Marie Natale.
We worked on small (imagined) landscapes painted over graded washes, one neural, one in color.
A good exercise 1) is using a "bead" to create a smoothly gradated wash and 2) using value to show distance ...
Dis a quick apple sketch this a.m. too. Maybe beginning to understand the volume?
Lovely work!
ReplyDeleteLove all of these. I don't know what a "bead" is, but would love to know.

Hi Barbara. Thanks for pointing out my "jargon"!
DeleteWhen you paint a wash, with a good amount of water, on a tilted board, the excess water gathers at the bottom of the brushstroke; in each succeeding stroke, you bring the bead down the page-- it prevents hard lines and streaks in your wash. At the bottom of the page, remove the excess water to prevent blooms.🙂
Thank you so much Laura for explaining that. A wonderful

Very good practice. Bringing depth into a painting is difficult and requires patience and full posture. Greetings Greta
