daffodils

(16x20 sheet)
To take a break from finishing the painting on the left, filled the other half of the page with the same subject, but without drawing it first.

Katherine asked me which I prefer, which is an interesting question.
I like the freshness and simplicity of the one on the right, but suspect I'd prefer the one on the left if it had a little more of those qualities. The best of both worlds is what I'm looking for!

  1. I can't decide which I like most! They both are so fresh, and the color superb. Which do you prefer? Or is that like choosing a favorite child?

  2. I like loose but I think the one on the left fits this criteria for me.Lovely fresh colours in both but I like the extra work on the left one

  3. Revisited with morning eyes. At this point I like the vase best in the less-defined painting - it's adequate to express the shape, the transparency, and the wonderful color. I like the flowers best in the more-defined painting - that tender orange-ey rim on whatever that's called on a daffodil...it's beautiful. But still, I like both!

  5. Laura - both are so gorgeous I can't decide. There is a part of me that enjoys detail and then there is the part that loves to let the eye finish it. That is what makes art so personal. At any rate they are very lovely.

  6. Love them both and am very impressed that there was no drawing done on the looser one! But my fave is the one that lookes more finished and has the Ball name on the jar and the gorgeous deep colors in the center of the flower and the touch of purple in the flower beside the jar and...ha ha, guess I like everything abiut that one and think it still looks fresh and loose with great clean colors.

  7. No one paints daffodils as well as you do. Love these.

  8. I like both. I like the deeper orange and purple in the one on the left, but, I also like the less defined, more watery on the one on the right.
