faces on the ferry

(7x10)
I have had these two photos since last October when I took them on Cape May - Lewes ferry, still in the thrall of September's Ted Nuttall workshop, which was so great that you came away wondering why you ever bothered to paint anything but faces.
No doubt I've forgotten a lot, but these two photos continued to appeal to me, so today I made a start on them.

  2. Hi Laura,

    How beautiful. These are amazing.

I feel that way about faces most of the time.

  3. I've been catching up here since Rehoboth - lovely landscapes and kitchen paintings, and great to see you returning to your faces workshop now. Look forward to watching these develop Laura!

  6. You've captured their stillness and comtemplative expessions nicely. Looking forward to the finished pieces, Laura. Enjoy your day!

  7. You obviously haven't forgotten much (if anything!), but what struck me about both of these, especially the second--possibly BECAUSE of its unfinished state--two relatively flat or undifferentiated areas juxtaposed--is something oddly and pleasingly "Japanese."

  8. Hi Laura, I look forward to this paintings completion. Hey why don't you do a Youtube video of you painting?

  9. Love these, Laura! I have been lacking any time to paint lately, and I've thought about getting back to trying portraits again. I so enjoyed that class with Ted Nuttall. If I can clear away some time here, I will do it. These are gorgeous colors.
