"Hazel"

(11x15)
More fishing boats. I feel like I've lost a little energy in this one, though there are parts of it I like.
I'm going to change subject matter for a bit and come back to the fishing boats later.

  1. Hi Laura, welcome back. Yeah, big ships are massive and strong. They are tough vs fishing boats where each of them has its own character. I bet they also look like their owners.
You do great job on both big and small ships. And I love reflection in the water on this painting.
    Thanks, Irina

  2. Boats and water and reflections I find so difficult in watercolour - these are terrific. Such rich vibrant colours and wonderful composition.

  3. You don't normally do a lot of reds, but they sure pop in these boat images--I love 'em! Really lovely, Laura.

  4. Wonderful again. I really like all these boat paintings. I can understand your wanting to go on to other subjects, but these recent ones would make a great mini-series.
I also loved the cherries and peach painting you posted (the second one in that post especially). The colors are so rich against the white.

  5. Beautiful shapes and colours, you are so good at watery reflections Laura. I have taken quite a few photos of boats to paint from, and every time I think of starting, I think... too hard! Respect:)!

  6. Laura, this is really beautiful! Those reflections in the water are absolutely exquisitely handled and look as I've seen boat reflections look (if that makes sense). As always, I look forward to seeing what you do next! Your work is one fine example of why I love watercolors so much!

You have such patience sticking with one subject. It's a great way to perfect one's drawing skills. I like the boats and your reflections are great.
