This is supposed to be my Carlos, who died two years ago ... It doesn't really look like him, even the colors are off, but the pose is Carlos all over.
I find animals to be a difficult subject, especially tabbies like Carlos (and I don't even try for the texture of fur!), though, come to think of it, my all black cat, Smilla, presents her own problems.
Though it's small, this painting looks better from far away; maybe because I wasn't quite sure of the details.

A very poignant portrait - it's delightful. x
ReplyDeleteI love fresh colors in your paintings. This is a beautiful portrait!
ReplyDeleteLaura, great job! I tried once to paint a cat, and found it very difficult. I love the pose here--such a cat pose, to be sure. Well done.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great portrait of your golden cat. That pose is so typical and catlike. Looks like my cat. Sending photo.
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful to me - I like paintings of cats, even more so than real cats, I think :) So you've changed some coloring but gotten the essence - that's what's important. Is your black cat named after the book (can't recall it right now but the woman was solving a mystery in Greenland). Smilla's Sense of Snow???
ReplyDeleteIt has such a sweet innocent look. I like the analogous colors in the background. I find backgrounds the hardest to paint, which is why I avoid these kinds of subjects - as well as flowers - which you are so good at.
ReplyDeleteJean
Great job on the kitty:)
