These were done from a reference photo on the challenge blog Inspiration All Around Us. It's a nice photo: the single white flower is a great subject--one that seems to hold special appeal for watercolor painters; like koi. Some of the leaf shapes were a little indeterminate; I tried to keep them that way by softening the edges.

Oh that's so pretty. Great use of lost and found edges too. I love your style - have I said that already?
ReplyDeleteVery nicely rendered. I'm sorry about your doctor's orders. I hope that you will soon be sailing again.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely lovely Laura, love those very subtle pinks and blues against the darks. (This appeared in my list with another title yesterday but I couldn't see it - hope all is well)
ReplyDeleteAnother comparison of a wonderfully loose watercolour,'just letting things happen' (or managing to look like that anyway) and one that is slightly controlled... I think I prefer the top one with a few tiny, perfect details.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful, Laura. Your loose yet defined style (don't ask me, but that is just how I see it!) is just amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour white here really pops--and the subtle changes of shadow colors are lovely. I agree--it was crying out to be painted, and someone like you could make this sing.
ReplyDeleteI admire how you paint your whites. Adding just enough color that the flower reads as white. It takes a good eye. You are so adept at painting flowers, amongst other subjects.

Loose, lovely, with lost edges. Your interpretations never fail to please.
ReplyDeleteLaura, What I like about your work is that it looks so effortless, (and I know it's not) ! your loose style is a learned thing I know, and yet at the end of it all it works out beautifully.
ReplyDeletenice!
ReplyDeleteLove your style, beautiful combination of colors!
ReplyDeleteMy first visit here - what a lovely site.
ReplyDeleteIt's always a nice day when I can visit your gallery. I am even sipping some fresh coffee while I enjoy your creations.
ReplyDeleteHi Laura,
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think I've commented because I have enough time to look at your work, and not enough to type a comment. This is so beautiful.
Take care,
Barbara
