(4x9)Testing out a new sheet on my Sennelier block with a little sunflower picture. I didn't notice until just now how the page seems to be split in half ... I filled in the "excess" space with a Daniel Smith duochrome blue; it has a sparkly quality to it.
Friday and Saturday I'll be in Lewes, DE, plein air painting with my friends Shelby, Betsy and Carol on Cape Henlopen.
I met Shelby and Carol two years ago at a workshop in New Mexico, where I painted the picture of the Santuario del Chimayo below. At the time I thought it was a disaster, but Shelby liked it ... Now it's one of my favorites. (And I see that, with the dark tree form in the middle, this page is nearly split in half too: some relentless, subconscious ordering mechanism?)
That's hilarious--I wouldn't have noticed it "halved" until you pointed it out. These are both beautiful pieces. Love the vibrant colors. Have a blast at the en plein aire outing! Can't wait to see what halving you do this time!

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't have noticed this halving principle if you hadn't pointed it out. Both paintings are spectacular. I think it's great that you made lasting friends in class. I met a friend in a workshop in California in 2003 and we've been friends ever since.

How fun to go painting with friends. The, New Mexico picture has beautiful colors,and I think the composition is interesting. I have a small block of Sennelier paper,it doesn't hold the water well? Maybe I'll try again.

I am a little more comfortable with plein air painting..... baby steps:)
