wading with naked feet

Actually I started on this one, but messed it up right off the bat (just as I was afraid I would). Happily, but for that one spot of quin red that stained, I was able to lift my false start.

(11x15)

I guess I'm getting in the mood for summer holidays.

Miracles
by Walt Whitman

Why, who makes much of a miracle?
As to me I know of nothing else but miracles,
Whether I walk the streets of Manhattan,
Or dart my sight over the roofs of houses toward the sky,
Or wade with naked feet along the beach just in the edge
of the water,
Or stand under trees in the woods,
Or talk by day with any one I love, or sleep in the bed
at night with any one I love,
Or sit at table at dinner with the rest,
Or look at strangers opposite me riding in the car,
Or watch honey-bees busy around the hive of a
summer forenoon,
Or animals feeding in the fields,
Or birds, or the wonderfulness of insects in the air,
Or the wonderfulness of the sundown, or of stars
shining so quiet and bright,
Or the exquisite delicate thin curve of
the new moon in spring;
These with the rest, one and all, are to me miracles,
The whole referring, yet each distinct
and in its place.

  1. Love the beginnings. Your drawings are strong. Can't wait to see how they progress.

  2. Or watch the new color rising from the richest ochre soil like some fancy dancer making her big leap,

Or make the first swish of paint on the fresh ground of canvas that amazes this maker, nearly freezing in mid stroke, joyful, wholly grateful to be.

...Just had to add my own art based thought.

Your beautiful drawings and your thoughtful post are very inspiring. Thank you!

  3. Oh, those are wonderful! You must have learned a good deal on this trip. I love what you came up with in some of these you've shown here!

  4. Laura It is good to visit your blog again. I rush past, and am so impressed with your work, and the WORK and dedication. Love the little girl in the previous entry. For what it is worth, I immediately loved the first ducks best, and then read how you wanted to get into more tertiaries! But I don't think you should change your style and punchy use of colour.

You incredible skill with drawing just blows me away. Plus this poem is so perfect for this and every moment. I am going to print it off and carry it around with me like a talisman today.

Thank you for this inspiring blog.

    Take care,
