emily carr class
Took a London Drawing Group class on Emily Carr, a Canadian artist maybe best known for her idiosyncratic paintings of trees. Her work reminds me a bit of American Charles Burchfield.
It was a fun class, with timed drawings done with a brush.
Many many years ago, I got to see an Emily Carr exhibit in Victoria, BC (or maybe it was Vancouver, BC?) and her work was amazing - you could see and feel the movement she painted in the trees - she has been compared to Burchfield but I saw a lot of Van Gogh’s swirls and movement in her work, too. Loved her totem poles. You have captured the movement on the paper, especially in those last paintings! WOW!

ReplyDeleteHow wonderful. I'd love to see her paintings in person!
DeleteI can definitely see Van Gogh in the swirls!
