backyard birds

Two cold weather tenants: white-throated sparrow and dark-eyed junco.
I like white backgrounds, but I'd like to come up with something else ... something out-of-focus.

Your bird paintings are always good. I too am a fan of white backgrounds. Some how when I do that, flowers too, it seems more of a botanical ... not always what I'm wanting.

I suppose just dropping in some color for foliage might be a solution for the background, but I do like the branches..

I like the cleanness of the white backgrounds, but if you want something, you could just do a wet-in-wet mix of greens, blues, browns very pale then let that dry and paint the birds (leaving the bird shape white while doing the background? A possibility. I like the branches, too, and those could be painted right over the big colors.
