cape may point

(7x11)
Started this outdoors a few days ago, but only had an hour to spend ... which may turn out to have been a good thing.

And, just looking for a little something to fuss with, found an old painting of my Smilla that I had abandoned ... trying to "save" it : added more flower shapes to fill the space and also the shadow shape. Still needs something ... maybe a very dark background on the right that fades to a lighter color on the left?

Laura - this looks like a great start with the lighthouse. As for Smilla - what a charming piece. Makes me happy to know others start paintings and then put them aside to come back to later. Have a great day. Thanks for sharing.

I'm told that less time spent painting plein air, the better (faster putting down the color and leaving it alone). I like both of these and love the green eyes on Smilla - is she named after the main character in Smilla's Sense of Snow? I agree, a darkening behind the flowers on the right will balance her beautiful darks with that and will make this one come together.

Maybe like a placemat under the flowers and cat? You're so inspiring!
