beach day

(4x6)
Went to the beach yesterday and it was lovely; nice rolling waves to float on.
I made this little sketch in my Strathmore journal, attracting the attention of a few little girls who were shyly fascinated.
Also surreptitiously took a few photos for later paintings.

I love painting with umbrellas in them, any kind - beach, rain, parasols. Something abut them fascinates me. Nicely done, Laura. Got tan?

Your photos will make for some fun paintings - maybe this winter when you are snowed in and hungering for that warm glow!

You probably inspired a future artist. This looks so peaceful--summer at its best. Lovely, Laura!!

Laura, some of your best work comes from scenes from beach, water and the ocean. and they are always wonderful... BJ

I love these sorts of little studies, and appreciate how loose it is while still being tied together with pencil line. The bright reds really do pop and is echoed nicely in the surf board. I guess so many of the pieces we display are labored over its nice to see the medium fully embraced; Especially the wet on wet in the sand and shore on the left with the paper absorbing the water.

Appreciate the great blog,
Swift

Love seeing these kind of little sketch book studies too - much more interesting (often) that full-blown studio pieces . . .
