For the last week or so all the hybrid lilies in the yard have been in bloom--white, red, orange, yellow. I gathered up a bunch to paint and started, without drawing, on a half sheet (15x22). I dabbed at it a bit now and then, but I never got any momentum on it and now I've rolled to a complete stop.
I've also been poking away at the two little paintings too; it's not like me to not finish such small paintings in one go.
I think I'm just not having the kind of mental energy--or is it mental peace?--I need to paint.
I hope to remedy that later this week, when I meet with a few friends for a couple of days of painting Delaware.

I understand completely!!I think it's peace. Take a break and read, don't clean though /I think that breaks up all peace, at least it does for me. Have fun in Del.Diana

Hi Laura,
You will get your groove back and finish these pieces in no time. They are truly awesome.
Try going to someplace different and taking a lot of pictures of things you'd probably like to paint sometime. We went to a colonial village/museum and I got lots of inspiration there. It gets one out of the same old, same old thing which can sometimes start to suffocate us all from time to time. Check out my blog Carmichael Chronicles for my post on Willowbrook Village. It was awesome.

It is only normal ... happens to all of us ... don´t panic it will pass :)
I love your work soooo much ... and watch your work everytime ... sometimes I don´t have the time to comment :)
... I also paint without an under sketch .. very exciting and challenging at the same time

Laura, I am so surprised to read your words! Why? Because they just don't jive with the beautiful pieces you have started here. Each one is truly gorgeous and I look forward to the return of the mojo so I can see them finished! Hope you have a great trip!

Wow--I love this image of all of them together, Laura! I know what you mean--sometimes you really just can't do it.

I thought I'd finished my comment--someone interrupted me! You have the freshest palette of anyone I know--it's always so clean and beautiful, Laura.

Sometimes we just need a bit of detachment, to be able to see better in our paintings ... other times we need to share our passion with someone: good holiday painting!

We all go through what you are experiencing. It's a good idea to not do anything until you are full of enthusiasm for painting again. Your jaunt with your friends will probably do the trick. Love the piece so far though.

All of the paintings look beautiful. I always love how you draw and paint lilies. The magnolias look great too.
Have fun painting with pals.

My lilys are all in bloom as well, they make such an interesting subject matter. I have only painted along side people once so far, and the energy was amazing. I believe you'll get your groove back.
cheers

Laura, thats exactly what happened to me and for a very long while even after my move and after I got my computer back. This feeling will pass though and you'll be right back at it. You have to! Remember? It motivates me. BJ
enjoy your time off.

Hi Laura,

everything you do is wonderful and inspiring. I think it's the time of year. Summer is so all consuming, and we know it's short. It makes it hard to concentrate. Your work is superb. Stay happy.

Take care,

Barbara

I hear you, Laura. I'm having a painting slump as well, and I wonder if it isn't just the need to be outside and experience nature first hand while the weather is good.
