happy st. patrick's day

(7x8)
The plan was to do a quick painting of something green; this stack of dishes on the counter seemed perfect. But I outsmarted myself: maddening attempts to get the ellipses right were followed by maddening attempts to get the colors right, until the poor painting became so overworked it no longer mattered.
Below: a photo of Winslow Homer's palette.

Yes, Happy St Pat's! I don't think it looks overworked either--I love the colors. (Trust me, you haven't seen overworked 'til you've seen some of mine!) And how wonderful to see Homer's palettes.

Love seeing Homer's palette ...

Your painting is lovely and must only appear overworked to you. Nice Irish colors.

Irish eyes are smilin' at ya lassy.

Hi Laura, I totally missed your last few posts.
I don't think the cup and bowls look overworked at all.
Don't you just love old palettes? I do. My friend was lucky enough to inherit an old palette from her grandmother,it has good bones.
As for the Jade plant, I rather like the pot, it has strong shape and color.

Well it works for me - it looks fresh and lively - no overworking evident at all!

Looks like the general consensus is that it's not overworked - I agree! I think it looks fresh and really love the colours you used!

Gosh Laura! I absolutely love this painting. It doesn't look in the least overworked to me. The colors are gorgeous and my favorite combination of hues. The ellipses look just fine to my eyes. Thanks for the shot of Winslow's palette! It looks pretty cool and I am guessing it was for plein aire work?

Green, Round. Bowls. What's not to like? Wrestling colors beat well behaved ones in this case, cheers!

Back at you Laura. From here, your watercolor sketch doesn't look overworked. I've been meaning to work with some of my greens too, maybe make some color charts in my notebook.

The inside of the cup is a little hard , but the rest of it is wonderful ...the blue greens and the brown shadow ...
