sketchercise 2

(4x5)

My day 2 Sketchercise plans were called on account of rain. (It seems to me that since my resolve to get out and bike more, we have been having an inordinate number of rainy days!) The sun's just come out--but, today, it's too late for me!
To keep it from being a total bust, I went out and weeded the tomato patch and straightened up the yard a bit ... until the mosquitoes drove me in.
On the bright side, I'm starting back with yoga tonight! My yoga pants just barely fit, so it's not a moment too soon.

I made the little sketch above of a pink around my birdbath using the Sai Japanese brush pens I read about at Laurelines and that I've only used once before (in my August 3, 2008 post).
I'd like to explore different sketching media--I have all sorts of things in my closet that I never use; sketchercising's a good excuse to bring them out.
I did the little pink on the left first and was totally unsatisfied with it, so I thought, Why am I being so careful, and did another trying to just get down the general idea.

These are wonderful, Laura. I love the rich colors but delicate effect you got here.

Hi Laura,

I like the pinks. I hope you enjoy yoga. Remember the mantra, and I will too.

A lovely painting.

Take care,

Barbara

Oh these are cool! You know, I just got one of those waterbrushes and have yet to use it! Time to get busy! Thank you for stopping by my blog and your comments on my lilacs! :) Marva

So lovely, Laura. You seemed to get the hang of those vibrant brushes. I bought them because Lauralines said the tips made such a fine line. Well, they do. And I do use a dark one for line work. The colors are so saturated, but I have not yet
learned how to get flowing washes from them. You got them to flow beautifully in those blue and green and pale mauve areas, though.

I'm still hankering after those pens - gorgeous vivid colours. I can't seem to get out of my house to walk/sketch either - cold and obligations putting a spanner in the works. Enjoy the yoga - maybe one day I'll get back to that too...

Good for you! I could use some yoga right about now. It's been a stressful week. I sat down and had a glass of red wine instead. Hmmmm...what's wrong with THAT picture!? Love your gull studies, and the colored pencil sketch is beautiful!

Oh lovely! I too am excited about beginning to sketchercise. Finally done with art classes for this term. Now I can finally get to things I enjoy (and paintings I owe to certain online art buddies). Planning a 2 1/2 week road trip in just a few days. I hope to have lots of drawings and sketches and exercise done by the end of the trip!
Your work is just lovely and I love gazing at my little watercolor often.
