different strokes

(6x8)
(6x8)

(5x7)
The current Different Strokes from Different Folks challenge. It never ceases to amaze me that if I think some subject will be "easy" to paint, it's not. Conversely, happily, I think I've also encountered a few things that I thought would be too difficult but that I managed to make something of.
I'm not sure which of those this is!
Seeing paintings photographed usually helps me see a little thing or two to "correct," and this post's no exception. So, I'll do that, then I have to decide which one to send to DSFDF.

Getting there?
Smilla has to investigate.

***BTW, I just want to say thank you to all the people who are "following" my blog; I'm so flattered. The list got a little longer without my noticing, but I'm slowly making my way around to visit the blogs of people I don't already know. ***

Hi Laura,
I came across your blog yesterday and am impressed. Thanks for putting your art out here! I'm a new to this.

Laura, forty-two followers! Wow! Good for you and your excellent work! The shadow in version two enhanced this wonderfully.

love Smilla, checking it out!
That is a beautiful setup. I'll be back to see what you do with it!

I like this set-up too. And Smilla ... she is so much like my Luna (a black cat also), always supervising and checking everything out. I like version two also, and I admire your courage in meeting this challenge. I looked at the photo for this and found it too uninspiring to try.

Hello!
The second one have more expresive brushtroke work.

When I looked the photo I didnn't like the tree in the middle. I decided to eliminate the tree. I think it's a good decision for the third version.

Hey Laura,
I like the first one the best. The colors in the windows and the subtle shadows compliment each other.

Hey laura it's me again,
I noticed everyone was commenting about your second painting so I went back for a closer look....I think the reason I like the first better is that the shadows on the roof are more evident giving it that 3D look that is so important when painting buildings....I do like the tree shadow on the second though...do you struggle with the shadow within a shadow rule like I do?...
