"sleep safe until tomorrow"
--william carlos williams

Back from my wonderful trip with my dear friend Robin.
This morning I took my handsome old man Carlos to the vet and had him put to sleep. Dr. Moffat was wonderful: kind, decorous and reassuring. Carlos was skin and bones and could hardly walk; but he still purred--and that made us both hold on.

Oh, Carlos! How fortunate you were to have such a loving home and person. Laura, I know how difficult it is to bid farewell to such a member of the family. My thoughts are with you as you grieve and readjust.

I'm glad Carlos could be there to greet you when you returned home, so you could give him such a loving and peaceful send-off. A handsome, lucky cat.

I'm so sorry, Laura. I have a cat and a dog who are dearly loved by all our family, so I know what a loss this is for you.

How sad for you, Laura, but good that you could let him go with kindness and peace.
Glad to have you back and that you had a lovely time with Robin...

Everyone for the kind thoughts--it means a lot.
Carlos was, I always thought, a very handsome cat. And the first time I brought him to our vet, the vet took one look at him and said, "Handsome cat," then kissed him on the head!

I didn't know if I should post this, but it's an important event and I did want to commemorate it.

Back to painting this afternoon, I hope, after I send off a job I'm working on (and late finishing!).

Thank you all again.

My heart goes out to those of you who loved Carlos. Wasn't he a handsome man? They are truely a blessing in our lives. When I get to heaven I'm going to get to the bottom of why pets don't live as long as their masters.
I'm so sorry.....

Oh Laura. My heart goes out to you. I still fondly (and wistfully) remember the first cat I ever fell in love with. There was such a special bond there. I'll never forget him, and though it was terribly sad to lose him it was a joy to have known him.

It's heartening to read how many cat lovers there are out there!
Thank you for your thoughts.

Michelle: Your last comment looks like a William Carlos William poem! I named Carlos after him.
I hesitate to give this advice because I don't necessarily follow it myself (I haven't painted a thing in weeks!), but it's often said, if you want to learn to paint, then start painting! Experimenting with how to achieve those reds would be a good start!

We had to put our Lily-Cat down Nov '07 almost a year ago. I was struck by the empty space left behind in our house - and how I kept thinking she was still around... that I'd seen a flash of her dashing around a corner, or just thinking she was at my feet while doing dinner prep.
Yes - there are many cat lovers who know what you're going through...
Rest in peace, dear old Carlos.

That You-Tube video is hilarious. (For some reason I couldn't leave a comment under it.) There's so much great stuff on the internet about the election now. I really love the way the internet fosters creativity! I've already got my morning after the election video ready to go. Four more days!! I'm so used to the daily political adrenaline rush, it's going to take a bit of adjustment when it's over to calm down. Well, unless that other guy wins, God forbid, in which case my blood pressure will remain off the charts for the next four years.
