(5x7)

And now for something completely different ...
This is a side view of the church in Taos that O'Keeffe painted. I have a view from the angle she used, and I'm going to paint that for tomorrow. The adobe color is so subtle, hard to get; for tomorrow's I may try glazing.

Ahh - I see the rut. Trying a little too hard are you? You spent lots of mental energy on your renovation. Super woman - you think you can blog a great creation every day. Give your mind a vacation. Those of us that love your posts will not mind if you take a mental health break from time to time. Best

I like looking at the colors artists use for various shadings, so I like the purple shadows of those little architectural wall thingies. I imagine buildings with corners and straight lines would be harder to watercolor than organic forms. Is that true?

Hi Bill, that's it exactly, I feel in a rut--I'm painting (sometimes) but not making any "progress." I like to feel, whether it's true or not, that each painting is a step forward, but right now I'm walking in place. That's a good point about mental energy: I need a recharge.

Hi Ruth. They're called vigas, and I love the way they look and especially how they cast shadows. I guess whether geometric or organic forms are easier depends on the person? I think I go back and forth myself. I used to prefer architectural subjects, puzzling out the perspective, where light and dark flat describe volume. Volume on a rounded or organic shape seemed harder to me. Now I don't know if consdier the subject so much as I plunge in with my paints!

your not in a rut :) and each of your painting is definately a step forward. Don't be cruel on yourself !!!!

Thanks, Doudy, for the reminder. I should be, if not kind, then at least tolerant of myself! ;-) Even doing a painting, no matter how it turns out, is a kind of progress after all.

And you know, Laura...this is just the calm before the storm...treading water before striking out in a new direction...that's how it works! Plateaus are just a resting place before you tackle the next level.
Oh just listen to me...all deep and stuff...s'true though. You just wait and see!
Love these, by the way! Beautiful, clean, simple, lovely.
